To Heaven And Back (Book Review)

Book Review:  “To Heaven And Back: A Doctor’s Extraordinary Account of Her Death, Heaven, Angels, and Life Again” by Mary C. Neal, MD

Mary’s book reveals her captivating experiences with death, life again, Heaven and her relationship with God.  She seems to tell her story just the way it is, which is refreshing because there is no pretense in it.  She does not just reveal her “heavenly experiences” but she opens up her life journey to give the reader a understanding.  This allows the reader to know her better and not just her experiences.

Mary talks about how the telling of her story would inspire people to tell their own stories of like nature.  This is what led her to write the book.  She said people would say to her, “I want to tell you about something that happened to me…I never told anyone about it because I didn’t think anyone would believe me.”  Some people will never believe, but for the many that do, these stories need to be told.  I am grateful for Mary’s book and others like it, as it is important that people are free to share their experiences.  In the end, this book left me with a deeper appreciation for God and His world that is much closer than we think.

This book can provide great encouragement to those who have lost loved ones who had known the Lord before their earthly bodies passed away.  My only caution is that it does not contain much about spiritual warfare, which I believe is key to understanding the full dynamics of the spirit realm.  That said, I love her story because this is simply her story.

I encourage those that have had similar experiences, to tell their stories of God without fear.  Remember, your experience is never at the mercy of an unbelieving person who has an argument.  Be free to tell of the greatness of His ways.
